Air Traveler's Security Charge
 |
*The Air Travellers Security Charge is remitted by the airlines to the Receiver General for Canada due to a surcharge on tickets. ^Revenues Collected from the Air Travellers Security Charge are to be used for the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) |
- In fiscal year 2002 – 2003 the Government of Canada passed charges on to air travelers that surpassed CATSA's needs by over 160 million dollars.
- Although CATSA's operating and capital expenditures were only $259,477,000 in fiscal year 2002-2003, they were granted the authority to spend 200 million additional dollars in the following year ($459,676,000)[1].
- In 2003-2004 the Government of Canada collected almost 410 million in Air Traveler's security charges, they only spent roughly 351 million dollars in operating and capital expenditures. $108 million less than they estimated, and nearly $60 million less than they collected in the Air Travellers Security Charge.
- Where did nearly $220 million dollars Canadians paid in Air Travellers Security Charges go between 2002 and 2004?
