Credit Card Knives are Illegal

Credit card-size utility knives are becoming increasingly popular.  They are thin, can easily fit in a wallet and quickly transform into a sharp knife that a lot of people find useful and convenient.

Unfortunately, this item is a concealed knife and, as such, is illegal under the Criminal Code of Canada. Recently, CATSA has seen a marked increase in the number of credit card knives being intercepted across security checkpoints.

When a screening officer finds a credit card knife at the screening checkpoint, the police must be notified. This causes delays at the checkpoint for all passengers and could lead to charges and prosecution against the person carrying the item.
