Jim Glass 1961 - 2012

JIM GLASS – 1961-2012

Life’s harsh reality hit us all with a mighty blow on July 10, 2012. Our dear friend and long time ATAC invaluable supporter Jim Glass, Managing Partner of Transwest Air, passed away at the age of 50.

Tributes for Jim have flooded in from everywhere and all share the same themes of unquestionable wisdom, quiet demeanor, endearing smile, positive energy, and just fun to be around. The more than one thousand people who assembled at his funeral were all in shock and disbelief. We could simply not fathom the idea of Jim no longer being there. Jim was not only a successful businessman, a key stakeholder in the aviation industry, but a very involved and generous member of his community, a loving father and companion.

Everyone at ATAC will dearly miss Jim as he was a powerhouse in our association. With kind words of advice, his boyish look, always ready to work or to party, Jim was so unpretentious and unassuming that when he spoke, one took notice. His no-nonsense approach always brought us back to the real issue at hand. He faced problems and challenges head on and dealt with them with a reassuring passion and fortitude.

Jim never spoke of himself but proudly regaled us with stories about his dad, his children and everyone at Transwest Air. Everyone has memories in which Jim is a main character and we will cherish those forever.

Still not able to cope with Jim’s sudden departure, we all seem to be holding our breath, hoping that this is all just a terrible nightmare. Unfortunately, it isn’t.

ATAC Chairman in 1999-2000 and a recent Honorary Life Member, Jim served on our Board of Directors for many years. Jim's passing is a huge loss to the aviation industry and he will be dearly missed.
