The Air Transport Association of Canada (ATAC), the national trade association representing commercial aviation across the country, is seeking an experienced professional to join our team as Vice President, Technical Operations and Environment.

 

ATAC is dedicated to supporting its members in building a safe, reliable, sustainable, and competitive Canadian air transport industry. As we continue to enhance our services and broaden our impact within the sector, this leadership role will play a key part in achieving our goals.

 

ABOUT THE POSITION


LOCATION

This position is based in Ottawa, ON however hybrid (office and home) work arrangements may be approved. Certain meetings and conferences/tradeshows will require in-person attendance and may require domestic or international travel.

 

SCOPE

ATAC is seeking an experienced aviation professional as Vice President, Technical Operations and Environment to facilitate resolution of all issues brought to, or uncovered by, ATAC respecting Technical Operations and Environment Committee members. Successful advocacy on behalf of ATAC membership is a fundamental aspect of this position.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reports to the President & CEO

  • Responsible to the ATAC Technical Operations (Engineering & Maintenance) Committee and Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) Committee members for regulatory advocacy and for facilitating overall Industry-Government relations in respect of Technical (Engineering & Maintenance) issues.

  • Provide leadership and facilitation for MRO International Trade Missions. Maintain MRO network connections in Canada and abroad.

  • Develop close professional working relationships with senior and working level staff within Canadian federal government departments especially Transport Canada Civil Aviation as well as other branches of Transport Canada, ISED (Innovation, Science and Economic Development), and Global Affairs Canada.

  • Advocates for CARs amendments that fulfill the safety mandate of Transport Canada without exerting undue operational and financial pressures on our members. Maintain an aggressive advocacy role on behalf of ATAC and its members in CARAC.

  • Responsible for ATAC advocacy and Industry-Government Relations in respect of Environmental Affairs. Ensure that government environmental activities are mitigated to the full extent possible especially as they relate to setting limitations on 1.) Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions that contribute to climate change and 2.) Aircraft noise, both engine and aerodynamic.

  • Facilitate the adoption and implementation of SMS by ATAC members.

  • Support development and implementation of aircraft operating efficiency improvements to save fuel and reduce Greenhouse Gas emissions through implementation of new technology and procedures.

  • Conduct research in respect of appropriate major industry initiatives.

  • Liaison with regulatory organizations: ICAO, FAA, UK CAA and EASA.

  • Liaison with other associations: NACC, NATA, IATA, A4A and ARSA

  • Expand ATAC revenue base by attracting new members and growing non-member revenue.

  • Special duties and projects as assigned by the President from time to time.

 

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Aeronautical/Aerospace engineering diploma or degree and/or AME license

  • Technical Operations (Engineering and Maintenance) senior management experience within Canadian airlines and/or AMOs/MROs

 

COMPETENCIES

  • In-depth knowledge of, and experience with, the Canadian Aviation Regulations, Standards and Guidance Material

  • Familiar with, and have participated in, the Transport Canada CARAC consultation process

  • Knowledge of ICAO and other international requirements

  • Be proactive and decisive when action needs to be taken

  • Excellent consensus builder

  • Excellent leadership skills

  • Display outstanding interpersonal and communication skills

  • Show and expect high quality results at all times

  • Customer/member service focused at all times

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Bilingualism is a strong asset

 

CITIZENSHIP

Canadian with a valid passport due to travel and security requirements.
